At-Home Engineering Challenges

Scientists study the world as it is; engineers create the world that has never been.

– Theodore von Kármán

For each at-home engineering challenge, we have created versions for use with students in lower elementary (grades K-2), upper elementary (grades 3-5), and middle school (grades 6-8). We also have Spanish language translations for all challenges. Select and download the version of the challenge you want to complete. Have fun!

We at the Science Circus Whittier Project want to make sure young learners and their families can fully and safely enjoy our resources. Please read directions carefully and follow any safety considerations provided. This activity is intended for use by adults and children who can read and follow directions and warnings. The Engineering Design Process Explored (External Site)

The following compilation video by Crash Course Kids  provides a wonderful overview of the Engineering Design Process. While the video is timestamped so that you can skip the segment of your choice, we encourage you to watch from beginning to end!
